#022 – Mt. Nanhubei 南湖北山 – 3,534m

Located just in front of the famously technical Five Rock Peak Cliffs (五岩峰斷崖)  Mt. Nanhubei (南湖北山) is located on the North First Section of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range (北一段), which runs in a giant loop over typically six or seven days (depending on a hiker’s fitness).

Hikers will reach the ridge-line in the early afternoon on the second day and will typically drop their heavy packs and make the short 20-minute round trip to get their peaks on this camera.

Once finished, hikers will need to traverse across the famous (and technical) Five Rock Peak Cliffs (五岩峰斷崖), before descending down a steep scree/gravel slop to spend their second night at the famous Nanhu Valley Cabin (南湖圈谷山屋).

Nanhu Mountain is 3536 meters tall and belongs to the Central Mountain Range. It sits within Yilan County and borders close to Taichung.

  • Check the route for the North First Section (北一段).

This peak can also be done as part of the a shorter/modified version of the North First Section (北一段), which skips the back half of the loop (and back three Bai Yue) and is typically done as a 4-5 day out-and-back route instead of a full loop.

This is a great option for hikers who want to see the Mt. Nanhu (南湖大山) area without the added time and risk of doing the more technically challenging back half of the route. Please email us and ask about the Nanhu Peaks route (南湖群峰) if you are interested.
