Cycling in Taiwan by Region

Cycling in Taiwan is one of the best ways to see the island. The cycling experiences in Taiwan are as diverse as the country’s typography. They range from some of the most challenging hill climbs on Earth to meandering bike paths and trails. Some hug scenic shorelines in the countryside and in cities, while others stretch up rugged mountain ridges in remote areas. One this is for certain. Taiwan has some of the best cycling routes in Asia, if not the world.

To help visitors discover the cycling experience that’s best for them, we’ve started by showcasing the different cycling routes and paths by tourism region. Each of Taiwan’s four tourism regions includes two or more of Taiwan’s counties.

Northern Taiwan

The most populous of the tourism regions, there are seven counties and cities included: Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, Yilan County, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, and Hsinchu City. 

Eastern Taiwan

Eastern Taiwan includes two counties, Hualien and Taitung. It faces the vast Pacific Ocean on the East and leans against the Central Mountain Ridge on the West.

Southern Taiwan

Southern Taiwan is full of history and culture and includes Pingtung County, Kaohsiung City, Tainan City, and Chiayi County and Chiayi City.

Central Taiwan

Cycle the heart of Taiwan! “Central Taiwan” refers to the following five counties and cities: Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, and Yunlin County.
