This is a perfect hiking tour for those with a little bit of experience walking longer distances over uneven ground. Daxueshan National Forest is one of the best kept secrets for those looking to explore Taichung. Remote, wild and stunningly beautiful, book this tour and hike along the famous and isolated Xiaoxueshan National Trail.
The remoteness and high elevation of this protected area provide great opportunities to see endemic wildlife such as Pheasants, Deer, and rare reptiles.

Tour Overview
Regardless of when you visit this protected area, you’re sure to love this unique thru-hike itinerary. Frankly, this trail is rarely hiked as a thru-hike due to the logistical challenges that it presents. We’ve changed all that with our specialized drop-off and pick-up service.
Guests participating in this tour have the opportunity to hike a beautiful thru-hike that is very difficult to complete without a designated driver or two cars.
The Xiaoxueshan National Trail (小雪山國家步道) and connecting trail down to the Daxueshan Visitor Center can take between 5-6 hours to complete and totals about 15km when its all said and done. This is suitable for more novice hikers.
After disembarking at the park ticket booth, guests will proceed to hike up to the Daxueshan Visitor Center, where your private transportation will be waiting for you. The trail is well-maintained and signed, yet covers a long distance and is at a high elevation of 2000m+. It can be tiring for those without a strong enough fitness level.
This tour includes insurance, bilingual tour guide (optional) and return transportation from Taichung High-Speed Station (alternate pick up locations can be arranged). At around 2 hours west of Taichung, this park is not accessible by public transit which makes these tours all the more valuable.

*This is a suggested itinerary, however guests can modify departure and pick up times as per their desired schedule. Some flexibility is available if guests wish to visit other destinations within the allocated 10 hour tour window. These are estimated times and are dependent on traffic to/from the destination.

⚠️ PICK-UP / DROP-OFF LOCATIONS: Our pick-up / drop-off location for this tour will be Taichung High Speed Rail Station. If a guest requires an alternate pick up/drop off location, please send an email to YourTaiwanOutdoors@gmail.com.
⚠️ GROUP SIZE: This tour can be booked for groups between 1-7 passengers. For groups larger than 7 passengers, please contact us for pricing.
⚠️ TOUR GUIDE: This tour is sold as a guided experience. The guest(s) will meet the tour guide at a designated location sent to them after payment has been received. Their guide will accompany them throughout the trip, providing interpretation and guidance where needed.
⚠️ TOUR SUITABILITY: The trails at Daxueshan National Forest are suitable for Novice Hikers and are well-maintained by the Forestry Bureau. There are some steep sections with stairs and ropes for support, however. Please consider your own hiking ability before booking this tour. ⚠️ TOUR AVAILABILITY: Guests are permitted to purchase this trip up to 5-days prior to their preferred departure date. This tour is available all year.
⚠️ PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Full payment is required at least 3-days prior to the departure date. This ensures our guests’ commitment to the tour and allows us to confirm participation.
⚠️ CANCELLATION POLICY:
- 95% refund when the cancellation notice arrives 41 days before the scheduled day of departure.
- 90% refund when the cancellation notice arrives 31 days to 40 days before the scheduled day of departure.
- 80% refund when the cancellation notice arrives 21 days to 30 days before the scheduled day of departure.
- 70% refund when the cancellation notice arrives two days to 20 days before the scheduled day of departure.
- 50% refund when the cancellation notice arrives one day before the scheduled day of departure.
- No refund cancellation notice arrives after the scheduled day of departure.
