Diving in Longdong is primarily shore-based, with several well-known sites offering easy access and a range of experiences for divers of all levels.

  • Longdong Bay (龍洞灣): The bay is the heart of diving in Longdong, with sites suitable for beginners to advanced divers. The underwater terrain includes coral reefs and sandy bottoms, home to a variety of marine life.
  • The Aquarium (水族館): Located at the southern end of Longdong Bay, The Aquarium is known for its clear waters and abundant fish life, making it a favorite spot for both snorkelers and divers.

Best Time to Go Diving in Longdong (龍洞)

Diving conditions in Longdong vary with the seasons, affecting visibility, water temperature, and marine life activity.

Spring (March to May)

  • Visibility: 10 to 20 meters, improving towards late spring.
  • Average Air Temperature: 18°C to 25°C.
  • Average Water Temperature: 19°C to 22°C.
  • Seasonal Sea life: Spring welcomes a resurgence of marine life, including nudibranchs and small fish species.

Summer (June to August)

  • Visibility: Excellent, up to 30 meters on good days.
  • Average Air Temperature: 25°C to 32°C.
  • Average Water Temperature: 24°C to 29°C.
  • Seasonal Sea life: Summer is the best time for spotting a wider variety of fish.

  • Seasonal Sea life: Winter is quieter, but offers the chance to see different species of fish that prefer cooler waters.

How to Get to Longdong (龍洞)

Longdong is accessible by both public transportation and car, located about an hour’s drive from Taipei.

By Public Transportation

  1. From Taipei: Take a train to Keelung or Ruifang Station, then transfer to bus 791 or 1811, which will take you directly to Longdong. The total journey can take up to 2 hours, depending on connections.
  2. Bus Directly from Taipei: Alternatively, direct buses to Longdong are available from Taipei City, particularly from the Taipei City Hall Bus Station. The direct bus journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

By Car

Driving from Taipei, take the National Freeway 1 (Zhongshan Highway) towards Keelung and exit at the Ruifang Interchange. Follow Provincial Highway 2 eastwards along the coast to Longdong. The drive offers scenic views of the coastline and takes about an hour, traffic permitting.
