Taipingshan National Forest Day Tour

If you’re interested in exploring a unique nature destination along easy hiking trails surrounded by a temperate rainforest and mountain environment, then the Taipingshan National Forest Day Tour is right for you! This tour features a visit to either the main park area or to the Cueifeng Lake.

Our Taipingshan Day Tour offers direct, reservable, and same-day return transportation service from Taipei Main Station, allowing guests to experience this difficult-to-get-to protected area at their own pace. There are 6 distinctive trails featured in the main area of this protected park, each offering different experiences. Walk through a Cypress forest that is perfect for forest bathing with many ancient “fallen giants”, and old-growth trees decomposing into the forest floor.

Due to the high elevation and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the park is often blanketed in fog, giving this forested area the feel of the temperate rainforests of North America’s Pacific Northwest. Originally used to transport timber throughout the region, the famous Bong Bong heritage train now offers visitors a unique experience of a bygone era. Perched along a mountain’s edge, whether sunny or foggy, this train is a fantastic experience for all.

Hiking Trails

+

Jancing Historic Trail (見晴懷古步道)
0.9km | Linear One-Way | No Permit Required | Level 1 Difficulty
Perhaps the title of “Most Scenic” trail in Taipingshan National Forest also goes to the shortest. Despite it’s short length, the Jancing Historic Trail is one of the most spectacular (and haunting) trails to visit in Taipingshan National Forest. Its flat terrain make it suitable for hikers of all abilities.

Taipingshan Cypress Trail (檜木原始林步道)
1km | Looped | No Permit Required | Level 1 Difficulty
The Cypress Trail is an easy hike that offers a fantastic opportunity to explore a Taiwan Cypress forest. When quiet, this is a perfect forest bathing trail with many ‘fallen giants’, old growth trees.

Taiwan Hemlock Trail (鐵杉林自然步道)
2.2km | Linear Two-Way | No Permit Required | Level 2 Difficulty
Many hikers refer to this section of Taipingshan National Forest as a “fairy forest”. Quieter than the Cypress Trail, the Taiwan Hemlock trail also features a changing forest with a thick canopy that provides almost complete shade.

Cafe/Restaurant
A small eatery is located about 100m up the stairs from the Taipingshan Villa. They have indoor seating for about 50 people and serve hot/cold drinks and some simple snacks.
